-NAIT Entities dealing with NAIT Animals

Cost: $129.00

Duration: 60-90 minutes to complete

Access: 2 months. Once course complete, access removed.

This programme consists of Programmes 1 and 2 combined, and is for:

A. Those Information Providers that will be accredited to assist others i.e. PICA to meet their NAIT obligations.

This includes (and not limited to) an individual or company;

  • That operate farm management tools for farmers that also offer a NAIT related service
  • Stock agents
  • Farm consultants and vets
  • Specialist NAIT consultants

B. Those that will be accredited to deal with (trade or process) NAIT Animals. Accredited Entities exist so that farmers that send their animals away don’t have to record a NAIT movement.

This includes (and not limited to):

  • Saleyard agents
  • Meat processors
  • Export facilities

The programme is made up of four learning modules and one formal assessment at the end. On completion you will receive a certificate for both programmes.

Module 1

Biosecurity and Traceability

In this module you’ll explore biosecurity and traceability and why these are critical to protecting New Zealand's agricultural sector.

At the end of this module you will be able to describe:

  • The main components of biosecurity
  • Why biosecurity is critical to New Zealand
  • The importance of traceability in disease response

Module 2

The NAIT Act and the NAIT Scheme

In this module you’ll get to know more about the NAIT Act, how the NAIT Scheme works, and what is required for compliance.

At the end of this module you will understand:

  • How the various NAIT components fit together
  • The value of the NAIT Scheme
  • The NAIT terminology and abbreviations
  • The requirements under the NAIT Act
  • NAIT roles and responsibilities
  • The obligations of a PICA
  • Tagging and animal movement requirements
  • The consequences of non-conformance

Module 3

Information Providers

In this module you’ll get to know more about the role and function of an Information Provider and how they assist with NAIT activities.

At the end of this module you will be able to describe:

  • What the role and function of an IP is
  • The IP / PICA relationship
  • Service provision and timeframes
  • The tools available to help
  • What to do when things go wrong
  • Implications of non-conformance
  • The system relationship between NAIT and third-party software

Module 4

Accredited Entities dealing with NAIT animals

In this module you'll get to know more about the role and function of an Accredited Entity and how they assist with NAIT activities.

At the end of this module you will be able to describe:

  • The roles and requirements of Accredited Entities (AE)
  • The role and core functions of an Accredited Entity (including the legal responsibility of being an AE)
  • The services AE's provide and when they need to be provided
  • The systems and hardware that AE’s use
  • The information available to help you do your job and where to find it
  • The disputes resolution process and what to do when things go wrong
  • The implications of non-conformance

Module 5

Formal Assessment

This includes 30 multiple choice questions covering the topics above. A 75% pass mark is required to complete the course and be issued a certificate.
